You have to make Europe yourself

The EU Future Conference is a process that will take place over many months in the European Union. The process consists of various phases with different opportunities to participate. We have explained how this works in our animated film for the German Federal Youth Council.

1st phase: Briefing and brainstorming

Being part of Europe's future and helping to shape it is a desire shared not only by us as a young, sustainable film agency, but also by the participants of the DBJR Future Conference. We were therefore delighted that the German Federal Youth Council team chose Die Grüne Filmagentur. The briefing: to explain the complex processes of the Future Conference in an entertaining way, taking into account the most important facts.

Phase 2: Concept development & film planning

Our customers care just as much about sustainable work processes and social sustainability as we do. The project was developed under fair working conditions with our in-house and freelance creative staff – naturally in close consultation with our customers. The challenge with this project was to make the complicated processes of the future conference as understandable as possible to the target audience of the event in order to encourage them to participate. In addition, the schedule of around four weeks did not leave much leeway, because the animated film had to be ready for the first event, of course.

Phase 3: Illustration & Animation

An animated explainer film offers many great opportunities to convey information in an entertaining yet understandable way. We took full advantage of this! In just under three and a half minutes, the film shows three young people participating in the conference: from the development and submission of their ideas to their evaluation, the story of the protagonists is told concisely and presented visually. It was important to us to use a collage-like style with a mix of paper textures, black-and-white photos and graphic elements that appeals to the target audience and approaches the topic from a playful and humorous angle.

The somewhat jerky animation, reminiscent of classic stop-motion, reinforces this impression. The film then goes on to address the political decision-making process. When creating the film, it was important to us to adapt it to the young age of the target audience and make it as accessible as possible. Our team of one illustrator, two animation designers, one sound designer and our voice-over artist achieved this goal: the result is a colourful, hip and informative piece that we, the participants of the Future Conference and our customers really like.
