Phase 1: Briefing and brainstorming

The task was to explain the function of a new sewage sludge drying plant and to dispel any concerns about the plant. To this end, we developed a hybrid format for the client: the main story was fictional and told the tale of a perfume designer searching for the ultimate ingredient for her next fragrance. Embedded within this was an explanatory film with 3D animations that explained how the sewage sludge drying plant works.

Phase 2: Concept development

Fictional storytelling meets explainer film: In the film, the customer encounters the fictional resident Ms Moschus: She is a creative, restless perfume designer who is always on the lookout for the ultimate new fragrance. On a stroll, she comes across the construction project for the new plant and reacts with disapproval. She fears that the drying process will produce unpleasant odours and overwhelm her sensitive nose. These and other concerns are gradually discussed and resolved by the protagonist in the film. The real questions raised by the local population about the construction are taken seriously in the scenes and answered in a concrete manner on a personal level.

Phase 3: Production

The film was shot over two days at five locations in Berlin and Ludwigslust. With a team of several people including the director, assistant director, production manager, cameraman, camera assistant, lighting technician, sound and make-up artist. Professional 4K film and lighting technology with cine lenses and a riser were used for the shoot. The latter was used to film the location of the plant from a bird's eye view in one shot.

Phase 4: Post-production

A particular challenge here was to merge the scenes provided by the customer in three-dimensional space with the 2D film scenes. On the sound level, the spoken dialogues are in the foreground. A particular challenge was to filter out the unavoidable background noise from the existing plant at the location in Ludwigslust during the sound mix. An atmospheric sound design managed to recreate the natural soundscapes of the forest and the showroom scenes.

And what do our customers have to say?
