Promo trailer on climate neutrality for the 20th RNE Annual Conference

Phase 1: Briefing

Our task was to produce a trailer for the opening of the 20th annual conference of the German Council for Sustainable Development (RNE). The approximately two-minute film was intended to appeal to viewers on an emotional level and raise awareness of climate neutrality. The RNE chose Die Gruene Filmagentur because of our sustainable profile. The film idea had to be implemented within two weeks, in time for the conference.

Phase 2: Concept development

Through regular communication with the client, we developed the basic idea and created a concept. The particular challenge was to condense and visualise the complex topics of the 14 core messages in such a way that they could be understood in a 90-second trailer. In addition, the opening film for the conference was intended to convey a sense of optimism. We quickly got down to specifics, researched stock material and developed catchy lines of text from the core messages. This enabled us to develop a storyboard that brought the narrative and visualisation to life and involved our customers from the very beginning.

Phase 3: Production

Due to the ongoing coronavirus lockdown during the production phase, it was not possible to shoot the film on location. We therefore agreed to use stock footage for most of the film. This enabled us to work efficiently and sustainably. Our editor Axel implemented the concept with the help of extensively researched stock footage and film recordings from the Alfred Wegener Institute, which were made available to us by RNE. At the request of our clients, the trailer was to be without a narrator. We conveyed the core messages with text inserts. To do this, we developed a typographic style based on the existing visual appearance and integrated it seamlessly. The final colour correction ensured that the film appeared consistent despite the different source materials. This was rounded off by setting the film images to atmospheric sounds.

According to the client, the resulting advertising trailer fully met the project's objectives and was presented on time at the annual conference in front of important figures from politics and science, such as Dr Angela Merkel and Frans Timmermans.
